Hello everyone!
First
of all I would like to thank everyone for all your wonderful comments
and emails about my new shop. It is SO nice to have such great support
and good wishes starting my new venture. So a BIG thank you and I want
you all to know how much your kind support is truly appreciated.
I have
been crazy busy since my last post, but I'm loving it! It is so
exciting seeing everything come together. I'm expecting deliveries of
stock the end of this week with more coming next week. The shop has
been painted but I still have to decide on the trim colour for the
outside - the perfect shade of grey-ey, blue-ey, green-ey is eluding me
thus far! Some of the Farrow & Ball colours looked so perfect on the colour chart inside but the minute they went up outside they turned completely different hues!
On the
positive side, my new phone line has been connected and Broadband set up
in the shop - yay!! I also engaged a lovely woman who is designing
the new website and has finalised the logo. The graphic designer is
working on signage and stationary, so it's getting there. My visa
machine is on the way, insurance bought, small warehouse found - as you
can see, I have been very busy!
Actually,
finalising the logo was quite tricky. I must have looked at hundreds
of images and fonts over the last two weeks before deciding on the final
layout. I LOVE it, can't wait to show you everything, but want to wait
until things are a bit more 'finished'.
I've
also been looking at paper carrier bags for the shop. The plain ones
are a bit blah, the ones you can get custom made with your own design
are very expensive! What's a girl to do?? Any ideas for bags?? If you
do, please let me know!
Also,
need opinions on the outside trim colour. As you know the shop will
have a French, faded, vintage/Brocante kind of vibe so which of the following
colours do you think work best???
A: Blue Grey
B: Green Blue
C: Dark Grey
D: Light Taupe Grey/Dark Taupe Grey
E: None of the above!!
Can't wait to hear what you think!
Thank you,
Sharon

A is so French. Have a stamp made with your logo and stamp your bags with ink or print your own labels on the computer
Have a look at MYLANDS paint, the Colours of London have some pretty shades. One called Sloane Square is rather lovely. How about plain white carriers with a logo stamped on, you would have to have a stamp made but the cost would be less. It all sounds wonderful I can't wait to see more.
Oh Sharon this is SOOOOOOOO exciting!!! I am beside myself about it all - can't wait to see the new logo and everything.
Regarding bags - I love the idea of plain white and brown paper bags, but with a large 'stamp' with the logo on it, so that it has quite a rustic feel to it. Not sure whether this will be too 'homemade' for you, and obviously it means someone having to stamp each bag (get the kids involved - lol!)but I've seen it done before on bags and tags, and I quite like the effect. You can also choose your ink colour to match the regular logo?
Also, my absolute favourite colour from your selection is the first one - the blue grey - it stands out a mile for me! (Much as I love it, I know what you mean about Farrow & Ball paint changing from room to room and light to light!)
In answer to your questions -
Yes - I do believe that we were twins in a previous life, as I love EVERYTHING that you do, and the pastel coloured bike post is my (not-so-subtle)way of pre-ordering my birthday present from Hubbie - lol!
Much love,
Paula xxx
Hi Sharon, enjoying your blog and excited for your shop! Perhaps for your store bags you could create your own stamp. Apart from a sore wrist, you'll save $$ & it'll be unique:)

The first one is my favourite ! Keep up your lovely enthusiasm !xx
Hi Sharon -
So exciting!! Thank you for the update. Brings back tons of memories for moi. (Can't believe I've had my shop for almost 9 years!!) Since I can't be in Ireland to visit your shop personally, I am looking forward to seeing photos, and checking out your new website. It's hard to pick colors from a computer monitor, but I like option A.
Cheers, friend!

Dark Grey or Blue Grey is very french. As far as bags, I say brown kraft paper bags & get you a big stamp made with your logo...it will look handmade & perfectly imperfect. Adding a short lace to to tie the handles will be a great touch that will be all about brocante & French finds I think. I'm so happy for you!
I'm so excited that it's all coming together for you. I think any of the colours you've shown would be appropriate for your French look. I can't wait to go on line and see your website! Sharon x
How exciting Sharon! I like the blue or taupe grey. Good luck!
Hey Sharon,
So glad to hear things are moving along nicely for you! As to the color I'm leaning towards the light or dark taupe-grey. I always seem to have a color in my head and find it hard to find the right paint chip to match! Have you thought of using a stamp or sticker on the bag? Might be a cheaper go then custom printing. I just can't wait to see your reveal.... it's almost like having of a baby ~idea conception, waiting and growing and then...ta da! A shop! (well I did say ALMOST) :)
Blessings to you,
Cindy

For the bags can you get a stamp made of your shop name/ logo, then stamp plain brown paper bags. It's less expensive and I like the way it looks :)
I like A or D
I think labels with your logo or business name on. You can then stick these to the bags and use to seal things that are wrapped in tissue paper :)
