Thrifty Shopping

I was in town the other day (town being Cork city) and as I walked down Oliver Plunkett street I noticed there was a new charity shop near the post office - so in I went.  I LOVE charity shops!  actually any shop where there are pre-loved items for sale, be it, vintage, antique, second hand, junk!  I'm not fussy - I love 'em all!! What's not to love!  You can buy furniture, clothes, home accessories for a few pounds and if you buy from a charity shop you're also supporting a good cause.  When buying second hand you're keeping stuff from ending up in a landfill somewhere so it's a very 'green' way to shop.   Buying pre-loved stuff is fun.  You never know what you're going to find as your eye scours the shelves for treasure.    Sometimes, I find nothing and leave empty handed, but sometimes I get lucky.   The other day I found two framed rose prints . . . 4.95 each!

I thought they were pretty, they're going in my downstairs bathroom . . .

Love the butterflies in this one . . .

On a shelf I spied a flat mess of glassy bits, but when I lifted it up it was a sparkly chandelier . . .

Then I found another one, they cost 2.95 each!!!!!!  I'm going to put them in my upstairs bathroom.

On the clothes rails I found this cute little polka dot top - 3.95

This little bag was very sweet, the price? 2.50

This silky pussy bow blouse caught my eye as it is a pale shell pink.  Price? €3.95.  The sleeves are just on the right side of puffy.

It reminds me of one of my idols - Katharine Hepburn . . . love her style - strong yet feminine. . .

So beautiful . . . those cheekbones!

So all in all, a good days shopping and all this for a few pound!   Do you buy in charity shops or second hand shops??  Love to know what you think . . .

Hi sweet Sharon! I Feel like I have been out of the blogging loop these past couple of weeks. I am hoping to post very soon!
You and I would have so much fun thrifting together-we have very similar taste. I love the chandeliers-what a bargain AND a find! Blouse is so classic (love) and the purse looks high end. Floral prints like yours look fabulous with striped (vertical) matting in a complimenting color. Something about the feminine flowers and masculine stripes just works so nicely together. So happy to settle in tonight and read your post! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend.

Hi Sharon - You did very well!! I love your roses / botanicals. I collect and sell botanical prints.

Completely with you on shopping at antiques stores, charity shops, etc. (Also enjoy yard sales & flea markets.) I, too, love anything with age....doesn't have to be very old, just full of charm.

Thanks for sharing your new treasures.

Have a Great Sunday!!

I have a booth at Tex kopke's flea market open each weekend. I go in to check my booth or settle up with him and ALWAYS leave with a box of quarter treasures. Something new each time to breath a different life back into. I have had those very rose prints, got rid of them and now see why I had them in the first place. I trust you will bring out a certain kind of lovely and I can't wait to see

Love your finds, Sharon! Those botanicals must have belonged to my mother. Just kidding, but she had four or five of these at home when we were young. Also love the long sleeved blouse, so feminine and ethereal!

Happy Sunday!

Sharon,

Some of the best treasures can be found at a charity or thrift store. Your floral prints are so sweet and I love your blouse! The chandelier is perfect as well :)

I love a pussy bow blouse! I wore one to Sunday lunch yesterday, and I got nods of approval from the French in-laws :)
And I cannot believe those chandeliers and that purse! You did so good! x

Nothing beats the thrill of discovering a bargain in a thrift shop! I LOVE it! Add to that e-bay, yard sales, antiques shops, markets OR fairs, auctions AND any old curiosity shop - I'm addicted to them all. My children try to avert my attention if they see any old wooden furniture sat outside of houses here in Norfolk - they're SO bored of me stopping the car and checking out what's for sale - lol!
Great purchases - LOVE those prints. Paula x

Love all your finds, especially the prints! Are you going to redo the frames? Sorry, just the redoer in me.. Very pretty bog, though, good on you, Shaon!!

LA VIE EN ROSE said...

Hi Theresa and welcome! I was just going to blacken the frames a little but nothing major as I have a gold 'thing' going on in the downstairs bathroom - that's where they're going.

Sharon,

Score! I love shopping at thrift stores, especially ones that support the community. I'd gasp if I had found those chandy's!! Love the polka dot blouse too!

The mention of Cork City reminded me of the last time I was there! I loved the fresh doughnut on the sidewalk! Good times!

Can't wait to see the finished bathroom!

Oh, you have lovely charity shops! Like you I can't visit town without popping into as many as possible. Mostly clothes here but will now keep an extra eye out for other bits and bobs, you've certainly picked some bargains up there!
